What do you envision when you consider workforce management software? The benefits pertaining to employee scheduling, increased automation, and vastly improved employee experiences only scratch the surface.

Below, you’ll discover real-life enterprises that successfully implemented Legion Workforce Management (WFM) software.

How WFM is Delivering Transformative Results for Leading Businesses

In partnership with Legion WFM, Forrester Consulting conducted an in-depth analysis of four Legion clients: all retailers with locations in North America.

Let’s examine the findings from these case studies more closely to see how Legion WFM delivered results for these organizations, and can do the same for you.

Key Result #1: Scheduling Optimization

Before any of these four retailers invested in Legion WFM, their managers didn’t have a reliable method of scheduling optimal labor levels. Either they didn’t have a forecasting system in place to meet their needs, or the systems they had didn’t output accurate forecasts.

With Legion Demand Forecasting, these retailers could accurately predict the ideal daily headcount based on operating hours, sales, items for sale, transactions, and anticipated foot traffic. Those forecasts were then used to create optimal labor plans and schedule the correct labor required for each shift, including labor not directly related to customer service, such as stocking and inventory.

Legion Demand Forecasting also pulled data from external sources, including the weather and local events, to create a more accurate labor demand forecast. Over time, the solution learned patterns from historical data and used perceived patterns to help teams adapt to changing environments.

For one of the retailers in these case studies, every hour they scheduled the right employees into the right stores was worth approximately $7 million in revenue. Getting the right people to the right place at the right time completely changed their business model.

Another retailer noted 10 additional hours of efficiency per store on an average budget of 200 hours. Once they stopped overstaffing, they realized a 5% improvement in labor optimization.

Their Director of Store Operations said their old system created extra shifts to complete their work; Legion WFM software redistributed those 10 hours into customer-facing tasks, which they considered ” game-changing.”

Key Result #2: Savings From a Reduction In Employee Turnover

High employee turnover was a pain point for each of the organizations surveyed. The associated costs were eating away at their bottom lines.

Employee frustrations and attrition were largely attributed to scheduling issues. For example, schedules were sent out at varying times of the week, and in some instances, employees weren’t notified when their schedules were posted. Other employees had to physically go into a store to get their schedules, and if anything changed, they weren’t always notified.

Once employees received access to Legion WFM software, they had more flexibility and control over their schedules. They had access to an easy-to-use mobile app which enabled them to easily swap shifts, claim open shifts, and updated their scheduling preferences at any time. With Legion WFM, employees powerful self-service tools that provided gig-like schedule flexibility and control.

Employees had more control over their lives because, every Wednesday morning, they received a notification on their phones with their new schedule. Now, they can plan their work around their lives instead of their lives around their work.

Key Result #3: Reduction In Premium Pay

Every enterprise has its own definition of compliance, and for some, that means earmarking no more than 10% of their labor budget to premium pay.

Before the implementation of Legion WFM, one of these retailers had no system in place for predictive scheduling and, therefore, couldn’t adjust their workforce when they needed extra hands. The result was overtime and premium pay that didn’t need to be issued.

Their labor operations were significantly optimized once they gained access to built-in compliance flags, accurate forecasting, optimal workload computation, and data-driven scheduling.

One of these retail enterprises operates in California, where they don’t just have to contend with overtime but also double time. Their Human Resources Director noted a 10% reduction in overtime due to Legion’s forecasting and compliance rules. These flags alerted them if someone’s schedule would exceed eight hours and added that time elsewhere.

Key Result #4: Manager Productivity Improvements

With Legion Automated Scheduling, managers spent less time creating schedules and managing spreadsheets. Employees gained a greater sense of empowerment and were able to view and claim open shifts right from their phones. A Director of Human Resources from one of these case studies said their locations reported a 20% reduction in missed shifts due to increased shift availability. In addition, Forrester Research found that time spent managing and creating schedules was cut in half.

Managers reduced the time spent in the back office working on mundane scheduling tasks by automating scheduling. Not only did they see a reduction in time spent scheduling, but employees received greater transparency about how their schedules were created.

A manager at one of these five retail locations reported a 50% reduction in scheduling time. Another manager was able to reinvest approximately two hours per week, or seven hours per month, in other tasks with a greater ROI, like talent development, training, or selling.

One of the other store managers in these case studies saw a four-to-six-hour weekly reduction in time spent on schedule due to new efficiencies like forecasting and automated schedule updates.

Key Result #5: Enhanced Engagement and Increased Sales

Companies that want to improve their employee experience aren’t only interested in bottom lines and dollar signs. They also care about well-being. Even though that can’t always be quantified, it still has enormous value.

The Executive Director of Information Systems at one of these nationwide retailers attributed the reduction in their turnover rate to Legion’s ease of use. They saw an improvement in employee engagement and manager-driven sales contributions.

The Director of Human Resources at another one of these retailers reported a 22% increase in manager contributions to sales. The same director applauded Legion’s platform for delivering employee schedules to their fingertips.

Now, these corporations can differentiate themselves from competitors when hiring new employees. They can tell prospective employees they can set their work preferences, choose which location they’d like to work in and pick up shifts at other stores. Their onboarding experiences have also improved due to decreased turnover and increased productivity.
