Compass Coffee Webcast with Legion

I had the pleasure of sitting down with Compass Coffee Co-founder Michael Haft on June 19 to discuss the ways Compass is using Legion to save time and remove the hassles of hourly employee scheduling. Thanks to our audience, who kept the questions coming during the webcast. Here are some of those questions and answers.
#1: How Does legion comply with or flag predictive scheduling requirements/penalties in New York and San Francisco?
Legion has compliance built-in so companies can avoid out-of-compliance scheduling. Scheduling and compliance settings can be defined at two levels: globally for all locations and locally at each location so local labor regulations such as those in New York, San Francisco and Seattle are factored in. Legion-generated schedules automatically enforce your business and location-specific compliance settings.
#2: Does Legion integrate with payroll systems?
Yes, Compass is using Gusto for payroll but Legion also integrates with other payroll systems. We have a bi-directional API for both ingesting data and exporting Legion data into other systems such as payroll. We integrate Sales, HR/Employee Data, Labor Standards, Payroll, Business Intelligence, Data Warehouse, Custom Budgets & Events from Home Office and more. Our integration experts will work with you to integrate, test and roll out the platform.
#3: Does the historical weather data automatically impact forecast generation (outlier detection, etc)? Is the historical weather data provided by Legion?
As Michael Haft mentioned during the webcast, weather can have a large impact on foot traffic. Legion uses a database of historical weather (temperature, wind, rain, or snow) and weather forecasts to include the effect of weather in our models. The advantage of doing this is that our models can learn the effects of weather independently from other effects, which improves the learning accuracy and there is no manual input or configuration required by our customers. Since weather forecasts are not accurate more than a few days into the future, we typically do not use weather for long-range forecasts, but instead, use them to compute and report the impact of upcoming known weather events.
#4: Does Legion integrate with time and attendance systems?
Legion has a time and attendance feature including a kiosk where employees can clock in and out. This is integrated with our scheduling feature so organizations can see how well-matched the forecast, schedule and attendance are. Managers can also look at differences between forecasts and time clocks and conduct root-cause analysis i.e., drill into specific stores, outlets and employees, to understand where mismatches may occur and correct entries as appropriate. Managers can get real-time alerts on timeclock and scheduling differences. Reporting features include regular and compliance premium pay, overtime, double time, schedule change premiums and more. Because Legion is designed for integration, it can also integrate with other time and attendance systems as well as payroll systems such as Paylocity and Gusto. Time and attendance records can also be exported by payroll and fed into their payroll systems.
#5: Does Legion allow employees to take shifts at other locations?
Yes, Legion supports location sharing. Organizations can indicate whether employees should only work at one location or can work at multiple locations. If employers want to enable location sharing, they simply select the option to allow offers for other locations. This helps with last-minute sickness, etc. when locations are close by. Michael spoke about how he prefers for employees to work in a single location so they build a relationship with their customers and co-workers over time but likes the flexibility to occasionally have employees fill in at other locations.
